Is sitting or standing better while working?

The answer is…BOTH! Here is a motto that should be stuck in your head — ”Movement is Life”. Most people don’t know this, but there are actually 3 different types of work postures:

  1. Sitting
  2. Standing
  3. Perching

Sitting and Standing speak for themselves, but what is Perching? Perching is a happy medium between sitting and standing. Basically, it is leaning against a surface. Research shows the benefits of perching is that it is easier on the back than sitting or standing. One draw-back to perching is that it puts more stress on your lower extremities. So your hips, knees, and ankles are required to do more work.

Now, we all know that when you sit and stand for long periods of time, your low back and neck tend to be sore. So, why not avoid being in those positions for extended periods of time, right?

There are a ton of different desk chairs on the market, but I have not quite ran into one like the LeanRite Elite.

This chair allows you to sit, stand, or perch and be comfortable throughout the day. It is easy to adjust, and the ways to utilize it are endless. Take a look at all of the different positions this chair supports:

If you follow my blog, you have heard this quote before…”Pain is just a warning signal that something wrong is gong on.” So…knowing that, let pain be the marker that tells you, “I need to change positions.” Utilize all 3 of these positions throughout the day and you will be in less pain!
